Choosing Blazer Fusing by Fabric Weight

A blazer can look completely different depending on what sits behind its outer fabric. The same tailoring pattern may produce a soft, relaxed jacket or a sharply structured one simply because the manufacturer changed the internal support. That is why selecting the right body fusing should happen alongside fabric selection rather than after the outer material has already been finalised.

For lightweight suiting fabrics, an 80 GSM option can provide enough stability while preserving natural movement. A 100 GSM grade offers more support and works well when the finished blazer needs a defined chest and lapel. For heavier wool blends, winter jackets and premium formal garments, 120 GSM can provide the stronger foundation required to maintain the silhouette. The goal isn't to choose the heaviest available option but to create the right balance between structure and comfort.

The performance of an interlining fabric also depends on how it bonds with the outer material. Manufacturers should test a small sample before beginning full-scale production, particularly when working with a new fabric supplier. Checking the fused sample for stiffness, bubbling, lapel roll and bond strength can prevent costly production problems later.
