Preventative Maintenance Begins with Shim Inspection

One often-overlooked aspect of preventative maintenance in power plants is shim health. A compressed or corroded shim can throw off entire systems, leading to premature bearing wear or coupling failure. We now include shim sheet metal inspection in every quarterly service protocol.

If we find oxidized or warped stainless steel shims, we replace them immediately. For foundational mounts, we often upgrade older stacks with a custom-cut ss shim plate for enhanced rigidity. And in instrument control rooms, deteriorated brass shim sheet is swapped out to maintain safety standards. Proactive shim maintenance prevents emergency breakdowns—saving both time and operational cost.
